Jim Bolger gets job

The Right Hon Jim Bolger ONZ has been elected as Chancellor of the University of Waikato for the next year.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford said the appointment of Bolger as Chancellor was a historic moment for the University of Waikato, and that “his leadership qualities and international standing will make him an excellent ambassador for the university.” Bolger said he felt very privileged to be elected as the new Chancellor and to have an opportunity to contribute to 21st century education.

During his 25-year career in politics, Bolger led the National Party for almost twelve years, was a Minister for sixteen years and had three consecutive terms as the country’s head of government.

Before entering Parliament, Bolger bypassed university and instead farmed sheep and cattle.
