Alex Neilson
I am a second year student doing a BCA in Accounting with an interest in Audit. I believe that a strong VUWSA that represents student views, supports student events, and fights for student rights is the best way to support students inside and outside their studies. Through Activities, Clubs, and the Education Office VUWSA ensures students can make the most of their time at. VUWSA’s strength relies on students banding together to fight for a better deal for students. For this we need a executive that cares for the future of VUWSA and I want to be part of that group.
How financially responsible is VUWSA?
VUWSA has traditionally not been financially responsible however in the year I have been Treasurer we have moved to a much better system with timely budgets and monthly accounts, proper expense authorisation, and monitoring of expenses. This improvement has enabled VUWSA to stabilise itself and stand on its own two feet.
How will you change things?
My experience this year will allow me to budget better. One think lacking in this years budgeting was money budgeted for capital items, like replacing computers, this meant we had to re-budget in some areas midyear to purchase new computers for Salient and other old equipment that needed replacement.
Joshua O’Rourke
My name is Joshua A-Team O’Rourke and I am running for VUWSA Treasurer. I am studying a BCA majoring in Economics and Public Policy with interests in those areas as well as student and national politics.
Being a director of my own company and an accounting student contributes to the experience required to fulfil the Treasurer’s role properly. I am excited about running under that A-Team ticket, one that will have the chance to provide the quality leadership and accountability that our students deserve.

How financially responsible is VUWSA?
The 2007 Exec has shown its irresponsibility through constant blunders and a lack of efficiency despite the 20% levy increase. VUWSA has essential roles, particularly in student advocacy that it is simply not performing. The A-Team will put the focus of VUWSA back on this and return excess funds back to students.
How will you change things?
I will advocate ensuring that all VUWSA expenditure is necessary to deliver well-being to the student-body at large. The A-Team will institute a Financial Management Plan which the current constitution lacks, thereby ensuring a more accountable and forwardlooking VUWSA that students can be proud to belong.
