Stick It is a definite contender for the Oscars. I’m kidding… This film is no amazing life-changer; in fact, it lessened the quality of my life for that brief moment of hogged screen time.
It’s one of those ‘do this and skip jail time’ flicks. Only Hayley (Missy Peregrym) wasn’t all that badass in the first place. What landed her in jail was accidentally damaging property… what a hardened criminal. She has three choices to make: go to military school, do jail time, or go to this gymnastics academy. Gymnastics academy? Yeah, that’s because she was a former national champ that walked out of the World Championships and this whole back-story that’s just a waste of precious Salient space.
Ohhh, I really feel like a bitch-fest as since it sucks that none of the actresses actually did any of their own gymnastics stunts. I felt like since the actresses were basically unknown, they might as well have gotten real gymnasts to give the film an extra ‘cool’ element of chicks doing it for real, rather that fancy camera work. I don’t understand why ugly as hell actress Nikki SooHoo was cast in the film. If she couldn’t even do gym, why hire her? Her acting, again, was shit, but her face was worse.
Anyhow, bitchiness aside, this film had some amazing gymnastics stunts, and fun dialogue that would make it a suitable film for a girl’s night out. The copious amount of wine consumed before watching it probably helped make me make the mistake of liking it, but I can see the attraction factor of Stick It for a younger crowd. But none of us are really that young anymore, are we?
