Buy Nothing Day
How do you even begin to describe such a pointless protest? Who sits there thinking “if I don’t buy that table on Buy Nothing Day maybe it will become a tree again!”? How do you even begin to measure if it works?
The simple answer is that it doesn’t work. Buy Nothing Day has less impact on the global capitalist system than International Talk Like A Pirate Day.
But just to be sure, on that particular day, for every thing you don’t buy I will buy three.
Public Transport
Public Transport is great.
It is relatively low cost and slightly less worse for the planet.
It has just three drawbacks:
* It does not come and pick me up
* It does not go exactly to my desired destination
* They let members of the public on board.
Apart from that it is great.
Sevens
The Wellington Sevens crowd atmosphere was once aptly described a bazaar of cross- dressing and undressing.
This year, there was a little bit less of the latter because of the new rules. Costumes which had been used to advertise the Sevens were banned at the last minute. There were slightly tougher standards of behaviour and public modesty enforced, which raised the overall standard to “debauched”.
I’d like to add a new rule for next year:
Automatic ejection for anyone who asks “Which one is Dan Carter?”
