A former Victoria University student earlier reported as missing has been found dead in the town belt area near Mt Victoria on 8 March, nearly a month after he was last seen running from his Hawker St home.

Capital and Coast District Health Board has since launched an investigation into the case of Finn Higgins, 26, as his family raises questions about how Higgins failed to receive the mental health care he required.

Higgins’ sister Zoe Gilbert told the Dominion Post that the board had admitted mistakes were made in her brother’s care and described the missed opportunities to prevent his death as “devastating.”
