VUWSA Women’s Group!
The VUWSA Women’s Group is a group aiming to represent all self-identifying women on campus regardless of age, religion, sexual orientation, political beliefs or culture. Although it is a political group, we also specialise in arts and crafts nights, movies and general festivities. The Women’s Group also run campaigns such as Thursdays in Black, which demands a world without rape and violence.
We have t-shirts, hoodies and caps in a range of styles and sizes which can be purchased at stalls in the quad every Thursday, at Student Representative Council Meetings (SRCs) and in the VUWSA offices (ground floor of the Student Union Building). You can find the Women’s Space on level two of the Student Union Building, where you can go and relax, make a cup of tea or breastfeed without being disturbed. There may be construction going on around it for a bit but if you wander on up, there should be a sign directing you to more quiet places.
This year, we are aiming to have weekly meetings at alternating times, so if you can’t make one, hopefully you can make the other.
Important dates!
The first event this year is a meet and greet picnic extravaganza on 8 March on Hunter Lawn (the big lawn in front of the old pretty building) from 12:30–1:30 pm, though if you’re having a rad time, we’re not gonna kick you off!
International No Diet Day is the 6th of May and this year will hopefully be celebrated with a fashion show showcasing women of all shapes and sizes, proving that beauty has no boundaries. There will also be a dessert buffet and piñata for you to embrace your day of forgetting all the silly hoo-haa about your body image.
From the 10th of May until the 14th is Women’s Fest—a week of women oriented workshops, panel discussions and events. The Wednesday will bring a quiz to Mount Street Bar, with drink specials and lots of prizes for participants. Keep an eye out for the posters closer to the time!
