Victoria University icon and former library cat Sandy Rankine passed away late last month after a long and happy life at the Central Library.

Although he retired to Newtown earlier this year, Sandy had been a popular personality at the library since he first arrived in 2003.

In 2009 a concert was held at Mount Street Bar to raise funds for Sandy’s vet treatment.

During his last months in Newtown, Sandy enjoyed a relaxing retirement, special treats and his first experiences of the outdoors in years. He particularly liked rolling in the dirt and sniffing the fresh air.

A memorial service was held for Sandy at the library last Friday.

Sandy will be missed by staff and students alike.
