Another Year, Another Hall, Another Elevator

Joan Stevens Hall opened its doors for the first time last week. The catered first-year hall, at 128-132 The Terrace, opened up for its 242 residents on February 20.

As on many move-in days, the main complaint seemed to be temperamental elevators.

“Move in took a while, waiting in lines and stuff… Everything is pretty nice here except the lifts. They take way too long and miss your floor half the time. It’s too hard to walk all the way up to the seventh floor where I am,” said Greer Fyfe, a new resident.

Nothing went wrong on the day, however the following day someone was trapped in a rogue lift.

The official opening of the Joan Stevens Hall, which was to take place on Tuesday, was cancelled due to the Christchurch earthquake.

No new date has yet been set for the opening, as the main focus is providing support for students affected.

Joan Stevens: good luck with the elevators.
